I
noticed in the Times Record, a filing of notification on the part of Frank
K. Pfeiffer, Jr. to file a Natural Resources Protection Act Coastal Sand
Dune Permit for
tax map 14, lot 127 (end of Surf Street - see map below)at Popham Beach.
This application is on file at the Portland DEP offices and is supposed
to be at the Phippsburg town Hall. The notice was filed on the 19th and
says that the application should be complete by the 25th of May. There
is then a period of twenty days for the public to comment, and to request
a public hearing on the matter, once the application is complete.It was
in the DEP offices as of Friday the 28th and was dated the 25th of May,
2005. |
I believe
the project may set precedents for other development in this time of
severe erosion at Popham. This will be a "full" sand dune
permit, as the original Permit By Rule was rejected
because of possible "significant communities " and at the
discretion of the DEP because of its proximity to the front dunes. If
you want to have a public hearing on the matter, as I do, you must request
one in writing to:
