Phippsburg voted on a petition presented to the town, signed by 200 plus voters which would declare a temporary moratorium on large (bigger than 3 units) development projects intended to delay action on any developments until such time as the town's ordinances are improved and approved to accomodate and adequately deal with with potential impacts of such developments. The text of the warrant on this was at the town's web site. Copy and paste the following link into the address bar of your browser: www.phippsburg.com

There was also a question to approve a use of $10,000 in funds otherwise allocated to cover legal expenses before the town, some of which are a result of the lawsuits which we have had to initiate and which are described elsewhere on this site. The town's expense on our lawsuit is listed as some 300 plus dollars. Our expense on this suit is in the tens of thousands of dollars. It is about adhering to and enforcing the town's existing ordinances.

The vote took place on january 25th, 2006. The moratorium initiative was defeated. The expenditure reallocation was passed.
